The New York Jets begin their annual training camp on July 24. Here we take a closer look at wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.

Training camp for the New York Jets begins on July 24 — just around the corner. One player that will be playing a very important offensive role is wide receiver Quincy Enunwa. The 6-2, 225-pounder was a sixth round choice (209th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft.

With the four-game suspension of tight end Chris Herndon to start the 2019 season, Enunwa’s role as a hybrid wide receiver/tight end will be even more important in the early going.

Let’s take a look at his 2019 training camp profile.

2018 Season Recap

The Nebraska Cornhuskers product missed five games with ankle injuries. On 68 targets, Enunwa recorded 38 receptions for 449 yards and one touchdown. Many of his catches came on bubble screens under the Todd Bowles regime, which was not the proper way to use Enunwa.

His forte is in the slot and down the middle of the gridiron. He averaged just 11.8 yards per reception last year, a career-low.

Training Camp Forecast

Look for Enunwa to work on adapting to new teammate Jamison Crowder, who is also very proficient working out of the slot. It is very possible that he can work with Daniel Brown and Trevon Wesco at the tight end position on a temporary basis. He’s not the blocker they are, though. It should be a very interesting preseason indeed to see how this all shakes out.

2019 Season Outlook

The first thing the 27-year old needs to do is stay healthy. He has played in all 16 games of a season just once during his career (2016). Not surprisingly, that was his finest campaign (58-857-4).

Head coach Adam Gase needs to find a way to get the ball in Enunwa’s hands in space because he excels in yards after catch. The Moreno Valley, CA native is also a very viable red zone target because of his physicality and strong, reliable hands. Quick prediction: Enunwa plays in 15 contests and records 51 receptions for 785 yards and five touchdowns.
