3. Defense keeps rest of AFC North offenses in check

Looking at the rest of the competition in the AFC North, the Browns better understand the challenge that comes with attempting to become division champions, or they could be watching the playoffs from home again.

While the Cincinnati Bengals hope the hiring of Zac Taylor can help the team put an end to their three-year playoff drought in 2019, the two biggest threats at the moment for Cleveland heading into the regular season will be the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.

Despite the departures of Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, every football fan knows the Steelers still have plenty of dangerous threats for Ben Roethlisberger to work with on offense, especially after a surprise year from James Conner last year.

As for the Ravens, well the fact that Lamar Jackson played a key role in helping the team earn a playoff berth shows what kind of potential this offense has moving forward, and Baltimore deserves plenty of credit for bringing on new talent for him to work with.

Taking all of this into consideration, if the Browns defense doesn’t have what it takes to compete with these high-powered offenses, 2019 could turn into a long season.

Not to mention, if the defense fails to complete their job, it’s only going to add more pressure on Mayfield and the rest of Cleveland’s offense.
