NFL Power Rankings 2019: Chiefs rule, Packers lurking entering training camp

28. San Francisco 49ers (28)
The addition of Nick Bosa in the draft is going to help the San Francisco 49ers, but it doesn’t really continue their rebuild. Instead, it makes up for another early pick not working out to this point.
Boss’s arrival makes up for the fact that Solomon Thomas never became an adequate starter. The former No. 3 overall pick will now back up Bosa who should help alleviate their edge-rushing problems. Across from him will be Dee Ford, which was another good move on their part. As good as the front line is now, the secondary needs work in order for them to be a competitive group.
On offense, questions remain as Jimmy Garoppolo enters a big season. After going 5-0 in his first run with the 49ers, he was 1-2 in 2018 before tearing his ACL. The team believed in him enough to give him a huge contract before last season but he has yet to prove he can be a franchise signal-caller for an entire season.
He’s also limited with weapons. While they do have a good running back duo as Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon can be, San Francisco is thin at wide receiver. They’re counting on a lot of guys with No. 2 traits and hoping one breaks through as a No. 1. That’s easier said than done.
