4. Wide Receiver

The Vikings have two star receivers in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, but behind them the depth is largely unproven. With former first round pick Laquon Treadwell likely to be released — barring a huge improvement in his play — the third-string receiver spot appears to be wide open.

Minnesota has four rookie receivers in Dillon Mitchell, Olabisi Johnson, Alexander Hollins and Davion Davis. Mitchell and Johnson are the best bets to make the roster of the four, though we always see surprises in the preseason. Mitchell is also a candidate to take over the return duties after the departure of Marcus Sherels this offseason.

The non-rookie receivers include Diggs, Thielen, Treadwell, Jordan Taylor, Brandon Zylstra, Chad Beebe and Jeff Badet. Beebe, Zylstra and Taylor all have a fair shot of battling it out for the the final three or four spots behind Thielen and Diggs. Beebe remains a favorite to take over slot-duties in relief of Thielen, while Taylor has been impressive in offseason workouts.

The truth is that at this point in time no one knows what the pecking order at receiver will be, at least until training camp is over and the final preseason game has been played. The positional battle at receiver should be one of the most exciting to watch.
