New York Giants training camp is underway for 2019. Here we take a look at the profile for veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Training camp for the New York Giants is in full swing. Big Blue has a lot of work to do in order to rebound from last year’s 5-11 debacle. On both sides of the ball. The G-Men suffered through one of their worst defensive campaigns ever, finishing the 2018 season allowing 25.8 points per game, which ranked them 23rd in the NFL. Ouch.

In addition to that, the Giants could muster a scant 30 sacks last year, which had them ranked near the bottom (30th) in the league as well. That’s simply not what Giants fans are used to seeing. Quite frankly, their defense was an embarrassment in 2018.

One player they’ll be counting on to help bounce back and compete for a playoff berth is cornerback Janoris Jenkins. The eight-year NFL veteran will team with rookie Deandre Baker to hopefully give New York one of the better corner tandems in the NFC.

With that being said, let’s take a look at Jenkins’ training camp profile.

2018 Season Recap

The “Jackrabbit” had an up-and-down campaign overall. His coverage skills are not what they used to be. He’s 30 years old presently and his prime years are behind him.

Still, the Pahooke, FL native finished fourth on the squad with 70 combined tackles last year (59 solo) while adding a team-leading 15 passes defensed in 16 games. He collected a pair of interceptions as well and forced one fumble. He is the emotional leader of New York’s secondary.

2019 Training Camp Overview

Jenkins knows what getting ready for the upcoming season is all about by now but he’ll need to build some chemistry with rookie Deandre Baker, New York’s third first round pick this year (30th overall).

Baker is highly touted coming out of Georgia, having won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back in 2018. Jenkins and Baker will make an interesting combination when paired together this season. They just need time to gel together. That’s what the preseason is all about.

2019 Season Outlook

Look for Jenkins to continue being the emotional, vocal leader of Big Blue’s secondary and he should still have plenty in the tank to perform at a high level this coming season. The Giants have a long way to go to bring their defensive prowess up to an acceptable level in 2019.

The 5-10, 190-pounder will be a big factor in helping turns things around for Big Blue with his experience and leadership abilities. I can’t wait to see how he and Baker look together once the regular season commences.
