4. Montravius Adams taking first-team reps

As mentioned, the Packers made a big splash right before the start of training camp on Wednesday, July 24 as they release Pro Bowl defensive tackle Mike Daniels. The big veteran interior pass-rusher has since signed a one-year deal with the rival Detroit Lions. In terms of the Packers, though, there was a lot to process in the wake of the decision to release Daniels.

The move certainly made financial sense for the Packers, though they were seeing a good player on their defense sign elsewhere. While that may be true, though, one of the questions that was raised with Daniels out of the picture in Green Bay is who would be his replacement. Yes, Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry are obvious starters on the three-man front but the third man was seemingly up in the air.

Early on in camp, it seems that 2017 third-round pick Montravius Adams could be the player in line to get those reps in replacing Daniels. According to Acme Packing Company, Adams received the first-team reps with Clark and Lowry on the defensive line on the first day of training camp. That could mean that he has the inside track to getting that starting job.

Having said that, Adams won’t win the job running away. Players like Fadol Brown and even Rashan Gary moving inside will surely get their opportunities to contribute at the position. However, it does appear that LaFleur and his staff will give Adams the prime opportunity to be a starter in this defense.
