2. Running backs take pressure off Stafford

Losing Kerryon Johnson towards the end of last season was a crushing blow for the Lions since the former Auburn star seemed to be a great fit on offense, but at least if last year is any indication of what the future holds, Detroit should be in great shape on offense.

Even though Detroit had plenty of running backs on the roster in 2018, it was clear they wanted Johnson to eventually be the top option in the backfield.

With his rookie campaign in the books, the Lions would love nothing more than to see Johnson avoid the sophomore slump, and find a way to make a strong enough impact on offense for Detroit to make them a serious contender in the NFC.

For most of his career, Matthew Stafford hasn’t exactly seen the best supporting cast in the backfield to help take some of the pressure off the quarterback under center, and one can only imagine how much easier his job would be with a solid group of running backs.

So between Johnson returning to full strength along with the addition of C.J. Anderson in free agency to provide a veteran presence, Stafford should feel much better about facing less pressure to help the offense reach their true potential.
