3. Improved defense lives up to hype

Despite some of their struggles from 2018, the Lions ended up being one of the big winners from the offseason after coming up big in free agency, which was led by the signing of Trey Flowers.

Clearly, Patricia most likely worked his magic with recruiting Flowers from their time spent together in New England, and even though he’s dealing with a minor injury in training camp, Detroit seems hopeful he’ll be ready for the regular season.

Playing in the NFC North, the Lions’ defense will have their hands full throughout the 2019 season since each of their three rivals are loaded with talent to work with on the offensive side of the football.

From Mitch Trubisky looking to take things to new levels with the Chicago Bears to Kirk Cousins hoping to recover from last year’s disappointing season with the Minnesota Vikings, the Lions will face plenty of tough competition on defense within the division.

If Detroit is going to have any chance of competing for the division title or simply a Wild Card spot, the defense will need to come through on their end.

Otherwise, the Lions will be watching the playoffs from home for a third year in a row.
