In his second year in the league, he set a new league single-season record for receptions by a running back. Christian McCaffrey had a banner 2018, touching the ball a combined 326 times in rushing attempts (219) and catches (107). He totaled 1,965 yards from scrimmage (third in the NFL) and scored 13 of the team’s 45 offensive touchdowns.

As the 2018 Pro Bowler enters his third NFL campaign, it is quite possible that his workload could increase this season. Carolina’s running game finished fourth on the league a year ago and McCaffrey accounted for more than half (219) of the club’s total running plays.

Quarterback Cam Newton did his usual thing with his legs, totaling 101 attempts for 488 yards and four scores. But it will be interesting to see just how active he is this season, not only removed from shoulder surgery but in a second year under offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

While veteran tight end Greg Olsen returns, the team’s second-leading pass-catcher from a year ago was 2018 first-round pick D.J. Moore. He finished with 55 grabs, good for 788 yards and two scores. Versatile Curtis Samuel was second behind McCaffrey in touchdown receptions but Devin Funchess left via free agency for the Indianapolis Colts.

So could the productive running back lead the Panthers in catches for a second straight year and reach the century mark in receptions once again? Don’t bet against it.
