2. Bo Scarbrough, RB

Someone has to emerge as the third running back on this Seahawks roster. I know a lot of the attention has been directed toward Rashaad Penny and his potential for a big year, but there is a battle brewing for that third spot. Scarbrough’s main competition includes rookie Travis Homer, J.D. McKissic, and C.J. Prosise.

If Scarbrough doesn’t play well enough, he might not even make Seattle’s active roster. He did run the ball the best against the Broncos in Week 1 though. Scarbrough carried the ball seven times for 32 yards, which equals 4.6 yards per carry. No other Seattle running backs even averaged four yards per carry and only Paxton Lynch and Geno Smith had higher yards per carry averages.

Last season, Seattle’s three-headed backfield of Chris Carson, Mike Davis, and Penny led the NFL in rushing. While Seattle’s third running back this year won’t be nearly as involved, Scarbrough could make a serious case to at least stick with the roster. Right now, McKissic has the inside track for that third running back job. However, the Seahawks have a lot of injured running backs right now which opens the door for Scarbrough.

As a physical runner, Scarbrough brings an element to the table that most of the other low-ranking backs in Seattle don’t have. Carson is a good between-the-tackles runner as well though, and that might eliminate whatever advantage Scarbrough has because of his physicality. Ultimately, the Alabama product’s future could be decided by how he performs the rest of the Preseason.
