3. Tim Boyle, QB

DeShone Kizer seemingly had the Green Bay Packers backup quarterback job locked up as we entered the third week of the preseason, largely because Tim Boyle hadn’t dont much to really push the 2017 second-round pick in the first two exhibition contests.

With the starters sitting, though, Boyle got the start and seemingly one last chance to make his case. The second-year player out of Eastern Kentucky was able to take advantage of the opportunity as he had by far his best night of the preseason. He looked the best, had his best statistical output and seemingly put at least a little bit of fire under Kizer.

On the night against Oakland, Boyle completed 16 of his 25 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, earning a 113.9 quarterback rating. Boyle looked by far the most comfortable he has at the helm of the Green Bay offense to this point. He was in control and continually made nice throws to all levels of the field in this game (except, of course, super deep since it was only an 80-yard field).

Smart money still says that Kizer will be the backup to Rodgers when Week 1 of the regular season rolls around. At the same time, Boyle stated a strong case so that the coaches won’t have a no-brainer decision on their hands. It may not be enough to usurp Kizer but it was certainly enough to impress anyone watching.
