The Denver Broncos preseason is halfway over but there is still plenty left to decipher as they take on the Rams in Week 3 of the exhibition games.

At the halfway mark of the 2019 NFL preseason, the Denver Broncos have won one out of their three games so far this preseason. They’ll look to rectify the fact that they’ve only captured on victory to this point as they again head west, this time to face the Los Angeles Rams.

Heading into this game on Saturday, the Broncos have no doubt seen some positive things from players throughout the roster. At the same time, though, they need other players to start stepping up. These are the three players for Denver fans should keep a close eye on.

3. Malik Reed, EDGE

The Broncos seemingly always develop good defensive players and find deep cuts that turn into gems at the NFL level. Malik Reed has the potential to be the next player that fits that mold for Denver’s defense.

Reed was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Broncos. During the Hall of Fame Game, Reed was excellent as he showed his pass-rushing prowess against the Falcons. Against the Seahawks, Reed wasn’t as impressive. However, if he can regain the form he showed against Atlanta on Saturday, he can find his way onto the Broncos’ 53-man roster.

2. DeMarcus Walker, DT

DeMarcus Walker was a very good defensive lineman in college but has struggled to find his role and to find playing time in the elite Broncos defense. But this season could be different for Walker.

Walker performed exceptionally well Hall of Fame Game and had good games against Seattle and San Fransisco. If Walker can again step up and perform well up front for the Broncos against the Rams, the Florida State product could end up seeing much more playing time along the Denver defensive line in the 2019 regular season

1. Dalton Risner, OL

One thing that the Broncos needed to fix coming into this season was their offensive line, especially with the loss of both Billy Turner and Matt Paradis. The Broncos added Ja’Wuan James in free agency to step up at left tackle but they also added Dalton Risner in the draft.

The addition of James forced Risner to move inside and play guard, something he never did during his time in college with Kansas State (though many scouts believed he would succeed at the new position). Risner may have not played guard at all during college but he’s performed quite well there in preseason play. He’s translated well to his new spot on the line and should wind up as a starting guard in the regular season.
