Winner: Kerry Hyder, Defensive End

One of the many underrated moves this offseason for the Cowboys was signing defensive lineman Kerry Hyder. The former Detroit Lion has been playing well all camp and showed out on Saturday with two sacks. With Robert Quinn set to miss the first two games, his play has to be encouraging for the staff.

Winner: Taco Charlton, Defensive End

Also encouraging when thinking about Quinn missing two games is the play of Taco Charlton. The former first-round pick has been much-maligned throughout his first two seasons but seems to realize he’s on his last chance. In their third game, he had two sacks and forced a fumble on the opening drive which he also recovered.

Winner: Joe Thomas, Linebacker

Linebacker Joe Thomas also had a night to remember. He blocked a punt in the first quarter and then was able to jump on the ball in the end zone for a defensive touchdown. He almost added another score later as he jumped in front of a Joe Webb pass and had a clear path to the end zone. He dropped the ball but still broke up the completion.

Winner: Mike White, Quarterback

After what was easily the worst game of his career, Mike White bounced back nicely on Saturday. He finished 6-of-9 passing for 56 yards and his first touchdown in an NFL game. He still needs some grooming but at least there shouldn’t be calls to cut him this week.
