Washington Redskins have a low-key solid cornerback group. In all the hype, though, don’t sleep on youngster Adonis Alexander.

The crown jewel of the Washington Redskins is their front seven on defense. Specifically, it’s the defensive line that has everyone buzzing. And why shouldn’t it be? Matthew Ioannidis is a monster and Jonathan Allen is a stud. Da’Ron Payne is a legitimate star in the making and Tim Settle has all the potential in the world.

Meanwhile, the secondary is considered somewhat of a weakness on defense. It’s not exactly that everyone thinks they’ll be bad, just not on-par with the pass rush.

There are still some big names in the secondary though. Landon Collins is a star at safety and Josh Norman‘s still a very good cornerback. Quinton Dunbar has been very solid and Fabian Moreau has flashed tons of potential as well.

Meanwhile, Greg Stroman is an interesting prospect and everyone’s excited about Jimmy Moreland at this point. There’s also veteran Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie while Montae Nicholson is underrated by most fans outside of Redskins Nation.

There are a lot of names right there. Of course, there’s even more, but I’m not going to sit here and list everyone. In fact, they’ve created a low-key very exciting secondary that could end up being very good for Washington in 2019 and beyond.

That being said, Adonis Alexander wasn’t mentioned in that group, and purposefully so. The Redskins took Alexander in the sixth round of the 2018 Supplemental Draft but didn’t see much of him last year.

Truthfully, he’ll need to fight his way into a role in 2019 as well, but at just 22 years old, he’s the future of the position for the Redskins. There’s nothing wrong with them letting him learn under the veterans for the time being.

Of course, that could all change. Alexander has all the physical makeup in the world. He stands at 6-3 and is extremely talented in man-to-man coverage and can press any receiver. With that comes a solid tackler as well, something that’s very highly-touted in cornerbacks today.

In college at Virginia Tech, Alexander proved to be a very well-rounded cornerback. He was someone that could do it all but faced a few off-field issues. This definitely hurt his draft stock (or Supplemental Draft stock in this case). However, there’s no reason to believe Alexander couldn’t grow from his past issues.

Alexander’s matured since then. He’s also gotten a year of NFL experience under his belt and is one of the most physically gifted and well-rounded cornerbacks on the Washington Redskins roster.

Be careful not to sleep on him. One week you could be watching and, all of a sudden, No. 36 is making a big play on your screen. Get used to it because, when he’s given a proper chance, Adonis Alexander’s going to make the most of it.
