Dallas Cowboys: 3 Cuts that shouldn’t have been made

3. Ricky Walker, Defensive Tackle
Overall, Ricky Walker’s stat line in the preseason didn’t jump off the pages as he recorded eight total tackles but he proved to be rather disruptive nonetheless.
He flashed not only during training camp but also outplayed Trysten Hill, their top overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, in the preseason debut according to Bryan Broaddus of the team’s official website.

"“Look for Ricky Walker to get more opportunities with the second defensive line. I felt like he outplayed Trysten Hill and Daniel Ross inside. Physically, Walker might not look like the ideal body type, but he was the most disruptive player that the line had at tackle. The 49ers backups had trouble with him due to his ability to get up the field and defeat blockers.” — Broaddus, DallasCowboys.com"
Thankfully for the Boys, Hill did start to pick things up and should still be a valuable contributor. And in the end, there’s no reason to think he won’t have a better career than the undrafted kid out of Virginia Tech. But that doesn’t mean the Cowboys needed to let Walker go.
Surely they will try and land him on the practice squad and hopefully, they can do just that. The problem is, he played well enough to give another team a reason to claim him on waivers and use him in their lineup.
