5. Marcus Williams picks off Jared Goff

Week 1 for the Saints defense was a little bit hot and cold. They were cold when it came to stopping Deshaun Watson and allowing him to make big plays. It was frustrating to watch especially when the team was able to come back in the last minute of the game.

However, one bright spot was that the team was able to stifle the run for the most part including holding both Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson to under 100 yards.

One major part of the game was Marcus Williams intercepting Deshaun Watson, resulting in him being body-slammed by DeAndre Hopkins. It was an intense moment for both the Saints and Texans as it gave the Saints momentum and shut the Texans down momentarily. Looking back at their last meeting, Williams didn’t make much of an impact but this time is different. He’s matured as a player and it showed against the Texans. Considering that Williams had four interceptions in 2017 and two in 2018, he’s already vastly improving. Showing up big against the Rams and picking off Goff is exactly what the Saints need to set the pace.

Intercepting Goff is going to be key in stopping the Rams so the Saints defense has to step up. If not, it might end up like another NFC playoff situation.
