Atlanta Falcons: 3 Standouts vs. Eagles in Week 2
1. Julio Jones
The final notable standout performer from Sunday night’s Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2019 home opener for the Atlanta Falcons was star wide receiver and Pro Bowler Julio Jones.
Jones, who is in his ninth season in the NFL and with the Falcons in 2019 after being drafted by Atlanta with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Alabama, stepped up big when his team needed him most on Sunday to help pace Atlanta to its first win of the regular season.
After putting together a somewhat disappointing performance in the regular-season opener during Week 1 against the Vikings in a loss in Minnesota, a game where he finished with just 31 yards receiving on six catches while hauling in one touchdown while being targeted 11 times, Jones had his eyes on getting back on track in Week 2.
Coming into the Sunday Night Football game in Atlanta, Jones came into the new game and vowed to step up in Week 2 back at home, adding that we all should expect a bounce-back performance from the star wideout against the Eagles.
With him fulfilling on that promise he made leading into the matchup, Jones finished the game against Philadelphia with a team-best 106 receiving yards on a total of five catches. With a total of two touchdowns, including the go-ahead touchdown with 2:10 left in the fourth quarter, Jones averaged 21.2 yards per catch and recorded a game-long reception of 54 yards.
Over the course of his professional career to this point since breaking into the NFL in 2011 with the Falcons, Jones has played a huge part in Atlanta’s offensive abilities and its capability to be one of the more potent offensive units in the entire league.
On Sunday in the Week 2 victory, Jones once again resumed that role and was able to tally his first 100-yard receiving game of the 2019 season while helping the Falcons obtain their first win of the regular season.
