Stud: Michael Gallup

There was a lot of talk about wide receivers last season for the Cowboys who were trying to replace Dez Bryant. They released Bryant, who was one of the best wideouts the team ever had before the year began and they then were faced with a decision in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

With every wideout on the board, Dallas decided to skip on players such as D.J. Moore, Calvin Ridley, and Courtland Sutton. Instead, they went with a linebacker in Leighton Vander Esch, who proved to be quite a pick.

However, that didn’t negate the fact that they needed to land a wideout. They ended up finally doing that in the third round when they took Michael Gallup and the front office was thrilled with this move.

As a rookie, Gallup had his moments but wasn’t ready to be a No. 1 target. For that reason, they traded for Amari Cooper who ended up being a stud for them. It also allowed Gallup to find more favorable match-ups and he’s taken advantage so far this season.

On Sunday, he was able to pull in six of his eight targets for 68 yards. What was most impressive though was how he continually pulled in contested passes and he even broke free for what would have been a long touchdown but was just underthrown by Dak Prescott. Still, a great night for a young receiver who is becoming a star.
