Dud: First-half Carson Wentz

To be fair, the Atlanta Falcons weren’t exactly lighting the world on fire in the first half against the Eagles. However, Carson Wentz and the Philly offense were completely unable to take advantage, largely due to the performance of the quarterback. Though he was under a good deal of pressure, he consistently made bad decisions and cost his team chances of making quality drives down the field.

Wentz finished the first half going 6-of-16 and threw his two interceptions in those two quarters. On top of that, he took such a beating from holding onto the ball too long in the pocket on occasion that Josh McCown had to actually dust off his helmet and come into the game. Even more shocking, McCown had the better first-half performance. It was rough to watch Wentz early in this game — but good thing there was the second half.

Stud: Second-half Carson Wentz

For as disappointing as Wentz was in the first half, Doug Pederson must have delivered one hell of a halftime speech to get his quarterback fired up because the Eagles quarterback came out firing in the final two quarters. Trailing 17-6 in the third quarter, he capitalized on a turnover by the Falcons by leading a short touchdown drive. And a bit later, he orchestrated a fantastic 13-play touchdown drive to take the lead, capping it off by taking it in himself.

On top of all of that, Wentz did everything in his power to win at the end of the game on Sunday night. He delivered what should have been a perfect touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor that was ultimately dropped. And even after that, he still got the Eagles down into the red zone at the end of the game. The quarterback was great for the final 30 minutes, even if that’s a bit frustrating in itself.
