2. Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, WRs

Seattle’s top two wide receivers gave the Steelers’ secondary fits all day. Neither individual wide receiver had a standout day, but the two of them combined to rack up chunks of yards. Tyler Lockett, who was only targeted two times last week, bounced back with a significant performance. He caught 10 receptions for 79 yards on 12 targets. Last season, Wilson had a perfect passer rating when targeting Lockett.

D.K. Metcalf, a rookie second-round pick, turned in another solid performance on Sunday. One week removed from catching four balls for 89 yards, the Ole Miss product snagged another three receptions for 61 yards and his first NFL touchdown.

While Metcalf’s physical abilities were never in doubt, there was some skepticism as to how well his play would translate to the pro level. In particular, there were concerns about his route running. So far, Metcalf has performed admirably. His sheer size is a good complement to Lockett’s speed. Metcalf can also go downfield and be a deep ball threat, just like Lockett. The duo ensures that Seattle always has someone capable of taking the top off of the defense.

While Lockett and Wilson will keep doing their thing, it will be interesting to watch Metcalf in the coming weeks. He hasn’t faced an elite secondary yet and I want to see how he responds to going against the NFL’s elite coverage specialists.
