5. Devin Smith stays hot in place of Michael Gallup

It was pretty upsetting to see Michae Gallup suffer a knee injury that required surgery. While it’s never good to see any player hurt, the Cowboys second-year receiver was off to a fast start this season.

Throughout their first two games, he had already recorded 13 receptions for 226 yards — an average of 17.4 per catch. He was clearly taking advantage of the attention being paid to Amari Cooper and has a great rapport with Dak Prescott.

The good news in all this would be that Gallup isn’t going to miss the whole season. Some more good news is that Devin Smith showed in Week 2 that he’s capable of stepping into Gallup’s shoes and filling the void.

Smith caught his first pass of the season last week as he burnt Josh Norman for a 51-yard touchdown. Not only was that his first of this season, but it was the first time he caught a pass since 2016 due to multiple torn ACL’s.

With Dallas hosting a Miami team that just traded their best defensive back away, Smith should be able to take full advantage of the opportunity in front of him. He already salvaged his career by returning to the field. Staying hot could help him finally reach his lofty potential.
