Stud: Tyler Lockett

It seems safe to say that Russell Wilson has found his replacement for Doug Baldwin. Tyler Lockett and Wilson were nearly perfect when hooking up last season, but we’ve seen the connection become more featured in the absence of Baldwin.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Wilson targeted Lockett 14 times on Sunday. Lockett caught 11 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. The Seahawks wide receiver with the second-most receiving yards was D.K. Metcalf with 67 yards. That just shows how much Wilson and Seattle’s passing attack rely on Lockett right now.

Lockett has 277 receiving yards this season. This has been the best three-week start to a season in Lockett’s career. He is on pace to finish the season with 1,477 receiving yards.

Dud: Special Teams

Easily in the first quarter, Saints return man, Deonte Harris took a poor punt by Michael Dickson 53 yards for a touchdown. It was the first score of the game. In the modern NFL, return touchdowns are rare. Teams can’t afford to make these kinds of mistakes.

Early in the third quarter, Lutz missed a long field goal attempt for New Orleans. However, the Seahawks were penalized for an illegal formation and the Saints got a fresh set of downs. The Saints went on to score a touchdown. The Seahawks lost the game by six points.

With just under six minutes left in the third quarter, Cody Barton did recover a muffed punt. That play did redeem the unit a little, but serious damage was already done. When Brees isn’t available, you want to make the Saints offense beat you. You can’t bail New Orleans out by allowing them to score on special teams.
