Dud: Prince Amukamara

Truthfully, in this game, there weren’t many duds. Prince Amukamara wasn’t too bad, but he had some rough moments. He committed two penalties, one of which wiped out a turnover. Also, he got burned on a couple of occasions. One of those was for a touchdown.

Amukamara did provide some comic relief in the game. On a play in which tight end Vernon Davis caught a pass, he went down the sideline and Amukamara fooled him. He went towards Davis as if he was going to go for a low tackle. Davis then leaped to try to jump over Amukamara.

The problem for Davis was that Amukamara didn’t go low. He stood up and waited for Davis to land. Then he wrapped his arms around Davis. The problem even on that tackle was that Davis still got a couple more yards closer to the end zone.

Four plays later, Amukamara gives up a touchdown. On that touchdown, Amukamara couldn’t fight through a rub play and got out of position and Paul Richardson got an easy score.

For the game, Amukamara finished with three tackles. As I said, he didn’t have a bad game, but in a game in which the defense had an incredibly dominating performance, his play didn’t match what his teammates gave.
