Another position where the Cowboys could use some help is at tight end. So far in 2019, Jason Witten has been a pleasant surprise for them which buys them another year. Arguably the best to ever play the position in Big D, Witten returned to the game after a season of calling plays for ESPN on Monday Night Football.

More from Dallas Cowboys

He’s had a solid start to the season with 14 receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He did end up having a rough night on Sunday as he fumbled the ball away after making a huge third-down catch, but that was a fluke play.

Even with Witten playing well, he’s still 37-years old. And while Blake Jarwin has taken a step forward as a receiver, the Cowboys need someone they can trust as the heir to Witten. With that being the goal, they use their second pick here on Grant Calcaterra out of Oklahoma.

So far, Calcaterra has been off to a slow start in 2019 but he was great for the Sooners in 2018. That year, he had 396 yards and six touchdowns while averaging more than 15-yards per catch.

He’s slightly undersized and is more of a receiver than a blocker, but Dallas has to eventually realize that this is the way of the NFL anymore. They need a tight end who can stretch the field and pairing Calcaterra with Jarwin gives them two who can do just that.
