Dallas Cowboys 7-Round 2020 mock draft after first quarter of season
By Randy Gurzi
For years now, the Dallas Cowboys haven’t been good at the safety position. And for whatever reason, they just don’t want to spend the resources necessary for fixing it. At first, it seemed there was a chance as they were reportedly interested in Earl Thomas in free agency. However, they never got into a bidding war and Thomas was overpaid by Baltimore.

Still, Dallas then pretty much decided that considering Thomas was enough. They didn’t actively pursue many other options and decided to go into the season with the same safeties as last year in Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath.
Unsurprisingly, they’re getting the same results as 2018. Neither player is really bad but they’re also not making any splash plays. It’s time to finally find someone who can do that, which leads to the selection of Xavier McKinney, the latest Alabama stud to play the position.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound McKinney has developed into a star in the Crimson Tide backfield. He had 74 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions (one he returned for a touchdown), and two forced fumbles in 2018. He’s continued to thrive in 2019 as he already has 41 tackles, a pick, and a forced fumble in just five games.
Dallas has playmakers on the defensive line and ay linebacker. This move gives them one on the back end as well, which is an absolute need for them right now.
