Stud: Blake Jarwin

The Cowboys have a real weapon at the tight end position but for some reason don’t want to utilize him as much as they should. Third-year pro Blake Jarwin is a mismatch for safeties due to his size and for linebackers due to his speed.

That was on display again on Sunday as caught three passes for 49 yards including a 35-yarder that moved the Cowboys offense to the two-yard line. The problem is, he was only targeted those three times.

Dallas continues to favor blocking at the tight end position which is something Jarwin doesn’t excel at. That’s not good enough though as he’s been too effective to keep on the bench. It’s a pass-first league and Jarwin is their best weapon at the position when it comes to receiving.

Dud: Jason Witten

Saying those positive things about Jarwin is in no way meant to disparage Jason Witten. He’s a surefire Hall of Famer and has done very well this season after not playing in 2018. However, he did have quite the gaffe on Sunday Night Football.

In a highly uncharacteristic turn of events, Witten turned a huge play into a positive for the Saints. No. 82 had just caught a third-down pass and gained 16 yards but then fumbled the ball as he was being tackled.

The defense did step up and force a three-and-out, but they lost some important field position as Witten was right near midfield when he coughed the ball up.
