3. Big week for the Patriots offense

The first bold prediction that will take place for New England on Sunday against Washington is that the Patriots offense will have a breakout performance in a winning effort. New England, which has been stellar offensively so far this season and that had certainly been the case even entering last weekend’s contest against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4, was somewhat held in check for the first time all year last week in a 16-10 winning effort.

Although the Patriots had a handle on the game for a majority of the contest, their 16-point total is the least they have been able to score in all of their four victories to this point.

On Sunday in the Week 5 showdown with Washington, however, New England will return to form from what we’ve seen from it in the first few games of the season.

Part of the reasoning behind that is just due to the fact that this Patriots offense is too tough to face and is too talented to keep in check for more than one week. Led by Tom Brady behind center, that has been the case since he broke into the NFL 20 years ago.

The other reason for the prediction of New England’s offense likely having a big week is due to the fact that the Washington defense hasn’t been that impressive through four games of the year up to this point.

So far this season, the Redskins have allowed offenses to average a total of 399.2 yards per game in all four of their losses, which ranks fifth-worst in the NFL. Opposing teams have also scored 29.5 points on average against Washington this season.

On the other side of the ball, led by Brady and company, the Patriots offense is averaging 362.2 yards per game this year, which ranks 15th in the league. They are also averaging 30.5 points per contest, which is the fifth-best mark in the NFL.

New England is going to get back on track this week offensively, although it has been impressive for really the entirety of the season through four weeks. But facing off against Washington is a favorable matchup for this potent Patriots offensive unit.
