4. Chase Daniels makes case for starting job

A lot of people liked Chase Daniels coming out of Missouri. He’s a backup quarterback that in the Chicago Bears system, will provide some unique variables for the Oakland Raiders. It’s also fair to say he might create some doubt with fans who might find him a better option moving forward.

Mitchell Trubisky is something of a conundrum for Chicago. He helped get the Bears to the postseason in 2018, and for those who expected a leap forward in 2019, you’ve been disappointed. You should be. Chicago went all-in on the North Carolina wonder that has been more underwhelming than anything else.

In Chicago, that works. The Bears have a defense good enough to carry a mediocre offense to an NFC North title, the playoffs, and maybe even a Super Bowl. The problem for Trubisky, the very definition of mediocre, is that Daniels might have a bit more in the repertoire. Enough to perhaps add some dynamic missing in the Bears offense.

Chicago has two quarterbacks teams won’t have to work terribly hard to prepare for. Neither is a franchise-type that will keep a head coach up late at night. That said, Daniels is a wrinkle the Raiders will need to deal with. Perhaps even more so than If Trubisky was starting.
