Dallas Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones was asked to compare Dak Prescott to another Dallas quarterback but instead opted to mention Tom Brady.

When it comes to heaping praise on Dak Prescott, no one has been more willing to do so than Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Whether it was guaranteeing No. 4 would get a new contract during a rough start to the 2018 season or openly pining for him and killing any and all leverage once those talks did start, Jones has never been shy when it comes to complimenting Prescott.

However, the overly optimistic Jones may have gone a bit far in his most recent attempt to give Dak and his agent more leverage as they seek to break the bank. This time, Jones decided it was best to compare Prescott to one of the best to ever line up under center in the history of the game.

When on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones started to discuss how Prescott doesn’t remind him of former Dallas quarterbacks such as Tony Romo or Troy Aikman but instead, he says he’s similar to Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.

"“Oh, I think he’s neither. I really do,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “I think he’s more like [Tom] Brady. Now, I’m not going to. . . .We know Tom Brady, and he’s no Tom Brady. I didn’t say that. But the point is he will evolve and is evolving into a guy that will beat you. He will beat you with different circumstances and different players and different type teams. He will be on teams that have better defense than others. He will be on teams that have better protection than others. I think we got us one in Dak.”"

Jones quickly tried to cram the toothpaste back in the tube as he said Dak is like Brady but he’s no Brady. Then he said that he didn’t say what he said.

So, in typical Jerry fashion, he managed to circle all the wagons in one comment and there’s no way anyone can be sure of what he meant or what he was really trying to say.

What we do know, is he’s now raised the bar for Prescott by mentioning him in the same breath as Brady. He’s also opened the door for people to not only bash him for this take, but to also tear apart Dak and explain all the ways he’s not the same caliber player that Brady is.

What’s worse is the way he keeps putting all the pressure on his son — who is actually the one negotiating these new deals. He did it with the Ezekiel Elliott contracts and Stephen Jones and his team ended up having to cave and give Zeke far too much money — all while Jerry was out in New York City doing some stock market opening.

The younger Jones will now have to deal with Prescott’s agents wondering why the Cowboys aren’t forking out more money for their guy than players such as Carson Wents, Russell Wilson, and Jared Goff received. And that question is legitimate for a Tom Brady-esque player considering these others aren’t as good as Brady (Dak isn’t either but Jerry opened that door).

On top of all this, he made this gaffe without even being prompted. As Jones often does, he opened his mouth and ran down the weirdest rabbit trail possible. No one was mentioning TB12 and no one tried comparing the two.

He just decided he should open the door and say something outlandish, and put pressure on everyone around him — except for himself. And he did so with absolutely nothing to gain out of it.
