3. Stefon Diggs

The first player that is going to have to step up and shine for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon against the Philadelphia Eagles is Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs, who has made quite a bit of noise away from the field over the course of the past few weeks, will have an opportunity this week to follow up on his word that he wants to stay in Minnesota and play with the Vikings for at least the remainder of the season.

While the Vikings offense looked strong in the Week 5 victory over the New York Giants last weekend, led by Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins, running back Dalvin Cook and wide receiver Adam Thielen, Diggs was once again somewhat of the odd man out in a suddenly crowded offense of playmakers for the Vikings.

Such has been the case and story surrounding Diggs for a majority of the season this year, which may have initially been the reason for the spark in his public frustrations that he has displayed over the past few weeks.

In his fifth season in the NFL and with the Vikings, Diggs is coming off of a year in 2018 where he hauled in a career-best 1,021 yards and nine touchdowns through the air for Minnesota.

But so far in 2019, he has struggled within the Vikings offense and trying to establish himself as a consistent option week-in and week-out, totaling just 253 yards and one touchdown on 16 catches through five games.

Diggs had a breakout performance in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, where he grabbed seven catches for a season-high 108 yards receiving, but outside of that, he hasn’t been able to record more than 50 yards in a game in 2019.

Last week against the Giants, Diggs finished the winning effort with three catches for 44 yards, but was once again held out of the end zone while Minnesota cruised to a road win.

This week back at home in front of the home crowd, Diggs will have an opportunity to step up and shine within the Vikings offense that will need him to produce early and often against a tough Eagles squad.
