Running Backs

Derrick Henry TEN (at DEN, $6,100): Henry should flatten a Broncos defense that has been gashed on the ground. If he added anything at all to the passing game, he’d be in everyone’s lineup. Henry is as consistent of a touchdown producer around, and the likelihood of him crossing the 100 yard mark is very high. High floor, high ceiling.

Chris Carson SEA (at CLE, 6,000): Carson proved to the world, his coaching staff included, that he’s far superior to teammate Rashaad Penny; he’ll continue to earn the bulk of the backfield work and produce at a high level against an underperforming Browns defense.

James Conner PIT (at LAC, $5,600): He’s a tremendous value at his price, given that his top 10 running back upside gets a bump this week. Conner should play a larger role in the offense without Jaylen Samuels in the mix.

Kerryon Johnson DET (at GB, $5,400): The second-year back out of Auburn is one of the most underrated backs in the league, and a breakout performance isn’t a matter of “if,” but “when.” Johnson should eat against a vulnerable Packers run defense.

Malcolm Brown LAR (vs. SF 4,300): Todd Gurley is doubtful, leaving the bulk of his work for Brown, who has been effective in spot duty. Darrell Henderson may finally see a few touches, but expect Brown to shoulder the load in a tough home draw against a red-hot division opponent. Don’t expect top 10 numbers, but his floor will be high, and a high-volume option at a price of just $4,300? Yes, please.

Honorable mentions include Matt Breida at $5,100 and Tevin Coleman at the bargain basement price of $4,400 against the Los Angeles Rams. Both went off last week and, while running room will be harder to come by, Kyle Shanahan has proven he’ll effectively rotate two running backs to make both fantasy relevant.

Chris Thompson (at MIA, $5,000) is as sure of a bet as it gets for a dozen fantasy points at his price, while his teammate Adrian Peterson is an intriguing option at only $4,500, given that new interim coach Bill Callahan prefers to pound the football.

Don’t forget about Kenyan Drake (vs. WAS, $4,400), who might finally have a day against an equally weak opponent. He’s an attractive high-risk, high-reward option at his low price point.
