4. CB Jaire Alexander has bounce-back game

After one of his worst performances as a pro last week against the Cowboys, second-year cornerback Jaire Alexander should have a bounce-back week against the Lions on Monday night. Alexander gave up 201 receiving yards and a touchdown in his primary coverage against receiver Amari Cooper last Sunday.

In fact, it got so bad that Alexander pulled himself out of the game. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Alexander took himself out in the first quarter for two plays because he couldn’t catch up with Cooper. “I was out of breath; I couldn’t breathe… My legs felt so heavy,” Alexander said.

Before last week, Alexander was having an All-Pro caliber start to the season. He was PFF’s No. 1 rated cornerback in coverage until Week 5 (subscription required), but Cooper was too much to handle apparently. Alexander still broke up three passes and had an interception against the Cowboys, but he was exposed nonetheless.

All of that said, Alexander should be much better against the Lions’ Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. Neither have the capabilities of Cooper. Golladay is a bigger-bodied threat, though he lacks the long-speed to beat defenders deep. Meanwhile, Jones is a deep threat who lacks size. The Packers need Alexander to have a big game in coverage.
