Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) at Denver Broncos (2-4)

Thursday, October 17, 8:20PM ET

It’s a bit baffling how long I had to consider this game. On the surface, it would seem as though the Kansas City Chiefs are the all-too-easy pick in this one, right? Well these two teams are headed in different directions at this moment, which made it a difficult decision.

More from NFL Spin Zone

On one hand, you’ve got the Chiefs. They’re bruised and battered and have lost their last two contests — albeit against quality clubs. Patrick Mahomes is doing his thing, but even he hasn’t been as impressive as he was to start the season. Injuries have played a major factor, and yet every team has to deal with them.

On the other hand, you’ve got the Broncos. They looked like the bottom of the AFC West barrel to start the year (and may still be), but two consecutive wins have them on the rise. The Denver defense finally decided to show up, and Joe Flacco is doing just enough to win games.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, I just can’t see Flacco out-dueling Mahomes in this one. The Denver offense isn’t explosive enough, and the Chiefs still possess enough firepower to put points on the board. It’ll be closer than you’d think, but Kansas City still gets the win on Thursday night.

Prediction: Chiefs win 29-24
