The undefeated San Francisco 49ers take on the lowly Washington Redskins in Week 7. Bold predictions for the Niners in a possibly lopsided contest.
There were some people who believed in the San Francisco 49ers coming into the 2019 season. However, even the most staunch supporters of Kyle Shanahan’s team didn’t expect a 5-0 start that has the Niners as the only undefeated team in the NFC coming into Week 7. Yet, that’s where we are and they could be eyeing another win against a downtrodden Washington team.
Washington is coming off of their first win of the season, though beating the Dolphins thanks to a missed two-point conversion isn’t much to write home about. This is a team averaging fewer than 16 points per game, giving up 27.8 points per contest and that has already fired their head coach. Add in that Shanahan will likely be looking for revenge against his former employer and things could get ugly at FedExField.
How ugly? Here are three bold predictions for the 49ers on Sunday in Week 7.

3. Coleman, Breida both top 100 yards
Kyle Shanahan has been running over everyone that the 49ers have faced this season. When Tevin Coleman has been healthy, he’s been leading a strong charger. However, the likes of Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert have filled in nicely as backups to Coleman and made teams pay. Now they face a Washington defense giving up 134 rushing yards per game to opponents and that’s going to mean a big night for the 49ers ground game.
Saying that one of Coleman or Breida, the top two backs on the depth chart, would get 100 yards wouldn’t be surprising. However, San Francisco should be able to jump out to a big lead in this game. So not only will the 49ers already be a run-heavy team but they’ll be running out the clock late as well. The result will be a dominant rushing effort with two 100-yard rushers for the Niners.
2. Kittle finds end zone twice
Not surprisingly given the parity in the San Francisco 49ers receiving corps, tight end George Kittle has been the most productive pass-catcher for Jimmy Garoppolo this season. Through five contests, the tight end has 31 grabs for 338 yards. However, Kittle has only one touchdown on the season, which feels wrong considering his presence in the red zone.
Against the Redskins, that will start to progress towards the mean. Washington has struggled this season in defending tight ends and that doesn’t mean good things for them against an elite talent like Kittle. The 49ers tight end won’t just match his season total for touchdowns but will double it against Washington.
1. Bosa dominates with 3 sacks
Nick Bosa had his big coming-out party for the 49ers two weeks ago in the dominant victory over the Browns. In that matchup, Bosa notched two sacks, four total tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Last week against the Rams, though, the rookie was a bit quiet as he had just one total tackle. That won’t be the case against the lowly Redskins.
Through six games, the Redskins have allowed 15 sacks between their three quarterbacks. Having Trent Williams holding out has proven to be quite an issue and the strong Niners defensive front will take full advantage. As a whole, the group will notch at least five sacks but it’ll be the rookie Bosa that really feasts, getting three on the day in Washington.
