The New England Patriots try to stay undefeated as they go on the road to face a rejuvenated New York Jets team. Bold predictions for Monday Night Football.

It’s Week 7 and, by way of a weird scheduling move, the New England Patriots and New York Jets are set to meet for the second time already on the 2019 NFL season. This matchup, however, will go down under the lights of MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football to cap off the week in the league.

New England won, 30-14, against New York in the first meeting but it was a different affair. While Tom Brady and the Patriots played extremely well on offense, their elite defense was aided by Luke Falk starting at quarterback for the Jets. On Monday Night Football, though, that changes as Sam Darnold is back, coming off of a victorious return against the Cowboys last week.

Will Darnold and the Jets carry that momentum into this game and show the first holes in the armor of the Patriots defense? Or is this just another notch on the belt of New England amidst their undefeated start?

Here are five bold predictions for the Week 7 Monday Night Football showdown between the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

5. Brady throws for under 200 yards again

Tom Brady has been fine in the 2019 season. He’s not been great, he’s not been atrocious — he’s been decidedly right down the middle with 1,743 yards, 10 scores and three picks through six games. Having said that, Josh Gordon is out, Julian Edelman and Phillip Dorsett are listed as questionable and the Patriots are even shallow at tight end. That doesn’t spell breakout game for Brady and it won’t be as the future Hall-of-Famer will fail to eclipse 200 yards passing against the Jets.

4. Bell breaks a few long ones for 150 total yards

Put as simply as possible, the Patriots defense has been suffocating in 2019, shutting down everyone they’ve faced. They’re allowing just 8.0 points per game, 187.2 passing yards per game and a phenomenal 73.7 rushing yards per game. It’s been hard for anyone to do anything.

While that may be true, Jets running back Le’Veon Bell will make something happen. Likely as a pass-catcher out of the backfield, Bell will use his elusiveness and vision to bust a few big plays loose, ending the day with 150 total yards for New York. The only question, though, is whether that will matter.

3. White has 80 yards receiving, two scores

As mentioned when talking about Brady, the pass-catching corps in New England is tremendously depleted right now due to injuries. However, running back James White is recently returned from injury and looks to make an impact. In Week 7, he’ll be the focal point of the passing attack coming out of the backfield. With the Jets linebacker corps looking questionable, even if C.J. Mosley is back, White will feast with close to 100 yards receiving and two trips across the goal line.

2. Darnold commits minimum three turnovers

Though he’s missed time due to having mono, Sam Darnold has been quite good when on the field this season, most notably only throwing one interception on the year. With an under-manned offensive line against this fierce Patriots defense, especially the talented secondary, Darnold will have his worst game of the 2019 season. Between throwing picks and committing a fumble or two, the Gang Green signal-caller will cough up the rock at least three times on Monday.

1. Patriots win by 24+ on the road

When the Jets came to Foxborough in Week 3, the New England Patriots were “only” able to win by 16 points. However, they were far more dominant than the final score indicated. On Monday Night Football, the final score will better indicate that dominance over New York.

New England is going to cause Darnold and the Jets offense fits in Week 7 and, though Bell will break loose from some big plays, the Jets will be kept out of the end zone on the night. And though the Pats offense won’t be next-level by any means, they’ll score enough to make for a 24+ point victory over their AFC East foes.
