It’s been another rough season for the New York Jets but let’s see whose stock is rising and whose is falling as we head into Week 9 of the 2019 campaign.

It never seems to get better for the New York Jets, does it?

They’re starting to trade away players (Leonard Williams) and they’ve sunk to 1-6 on the season with little hope in sight. No matter who the coach is, who makes up the roster, Gang Green continues to be one of the most hapless squads in the NFL. Sad but true.

On that happy thought (he states sarcastically), let’s take a look at the current stock report for the green and white.

More from NFL Spin Zone

Stock Up

Ryan Griffin, TE: The seven-year veteran enjoyed one of the finest games of his career with four receptions for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns in New York’s 29-15 loss to the Jaguars Sunday. Griffin will give way soon to Chris Herndon, once Herndon returns from his hamstring injury. Griffin is an adequate NFL backup but his ceiling is quite limited.

Demaryius Thomas, WR: The four-time Pro Bowler is well past his prime but he did grab all five of his targets for 63 yards against Jacksonville. His ceiling is low as well but he finally seems to have gained the confidence of Sam Darnold.

Stock Down

Sam Darnold, QB: Things continue to spiral downward for the USC product. Darnold tossed three more interceptions against the Jags, giving him eight turnovers in his last two games. He is regressing and his confidence is waning.

He did throw two touchdown passes (both to Griffin) but his mechanics are bad and head coach Adam Gase, the dubious “Quarterback Whisperer”, has to take some of the blame for Darnold’s recent performances as well.

The offensive line: Darnold seems to be always running for his life behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. The second-year signal-caller was sacked eight times against the Jaguars and this line also cannot open up any significant holes for halfback Le’Veon Bell.

The Jets can’t go anywhere until they revamp this putrid offensive line. Bell’s signing will be a waste of money if he can’t find and burst through any holes or get open in space. This has to be priority No. 1 moving forward for general manager Joe Douglas.
