Chicago Bears: 3 Bold predictions vs. Eagles, Week 9
The Chicago Bears aim to end a three-game losing streak on Sunday in Philadelphia. Bold predictions for this matchup against the Eagles.
It’s safe to say that the wheels have fallen off for the Chicago Bears. Losers of three straight games after a 3-1 start, the defending NFC North champions have been finding new ways to lose each week — though the missed field goal as time expired last week likely felt familiar. Even still, there’s a lot of football left to play this season, taking them on the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in Week 9.
The Eagles ended a skid of their own last week, pulling off a dominant win over the Bills in a shocking result. Now at 4-4 on the season, they are still alive in their division and will certainly be hungry to keep it that way, especially playing in the confines of Lincoln Financial Field. Chicago isn’t going to roll over, though.
This is a potentially season-defining matchup for the Chicago Bears on Sunday. With that in mind, here are three bold predictions for the Bears in Week 9 against the Eagles.

3. Trubisky, Robinson take advantage of Eagles secondary
Few players in the NFL have been as maligned this season as Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, though it’s been deserved. Expected to take a big leap in his second year in this offense, the third-year quarterback has regressed. However, the one area he’s found success this season is targeting Allen Robinson on the outside. The veteran wide receiver has been phenomenal this season, catching 46 balls for 526 yards and three scores.
Though it’s hard to think that Trubisky is going to light up anyone at this point, the Philadelphia defense has struggled mightily this season at defending outside receivers. With the connection that Trubisky and Robinson have had, they’ll exploit that in Week 9. The duo will connect for at least 125 yards on the day and at least one trip to the end zone.
2. Mack gets to Wentz multiple times
Jason Peters will once again be out in this game for the Eagles, which should be music to the ears of the Chicago Bears defense. Though first-round pick Andre Dillard has been fine, he’s not experienced and certainly not ready for a matchup against Khalil Mack and Leonard Floyd. The former, however, will be the one getting home often on Sunday afternoon.
Mack has been good but not as great as expected this season. However, I expect the Bears offense to be much more competent in this matchup, which will help keep the star edge rusher fresh against Philadelphia. At the end of the day, Mack will get to Carson Wentz at least twice on the day — and perhaps even more than that.
1. Montgomery leads the way to victory
In the woeful loss to the Chargers last weekend, Matt Nagy held true to his word by running the ball more. And rookie running back David Montgomery rewarded him for it. The Iowa State product had by far the best game of his young career, toting the ball 27 times for 135 yards and a touchdown while also pitching in four catches for 12 yards.
While the Eagles run defense has been giving up only a hair over 90 yards per game to opponents this season, they have not been perfect against the run. Moreover, with Jim Schwartz likely looking to pressure Trubisky, the Bears can attack the gaps with Montgomery. The result will be another 100-yard day for Montgomery, this time riding the rookie to a win that ends a tough losing skid.
