Green Bay Packers: 5 Realistic midseason free agent signings to make

5. Muhammad Wilkerson, DL
Defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was a free agent bust in 2018 for the Packers, but not because of his play on the field. Wilkerson suffered a gruesome season-ending ankle injury in Week 3 and was placed on Injured Reserve shortly after. He only played three games for Green Bay after signing a one-year “Prove It” deal in March of 2018, but never truly got the chance to prove anything.

Despite only playing in three games (115 total snaps), Wilkerson was still a force in limited action, particularly in run defense. According to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), Wilkerson earned an overall grade of 76.5, placing him firmly in the ‘Above Average’ category at his position. He finished the season with only five total tackles, four quarterback pressures and two run stops, but had he never gotten injured we may have seen him back in Green Bay this season.
Still just 30 years old, Wilkerson would likely be able to provide 25-30 snaps per game as a rotational interior defensive lineman. The only problem is he was arrested for a DWI this past June and could face a suspension from the NFL.
According to the New York Daily News, his BAC was 0.09, barely over the legal limit of 0.08. There has been no recent update regarding Wilkerson’s status with the league. There’s a small chance the Packers could take a look at his services because of the familiarity.
