Stud: Julio Jones

Julio Jones was happy to have his quarterback return to the field in the contest, leading the Falcons wide receiving group in the road victory in downtown New Orleans. The star wideout finished with a total of 79 yards receiving to lead Atlanta in the passing game, hauling in a total of three receptions on a team-most nine targets. Jones was able to record a game-long reception of 54 yards although he was ultimately held without a touchdown reception in the win.

The connection between Ryan and Jones is one that is awfully fun to watch for NFL fans everywhere, and on Sunday the two were back to connecting throughout the contest en route to grabbing an upset win.

Dud: Giving up big plays

In New Orleans, Atlanta wasn’t able to limit New Orleans’ big plays in the game. For the most part, the Falcons defense was awfully impressive and put together a stellar performance throughout the course of the winning effort, but the fact that Atlanta still allowed multiple Saints wide receivers to break out for big plays was something that could have haunted the Falcons.

Most notably, New Orleans star wide receiver Michael Thomas finished the game with a total of 13 receptions and 152 yards through the air, hauling in a game-long reception of 18 yards in a losing effort.

The Saints as a team managed to break out for 304 yards receiving through the air behind quarterback Drew Brees, breaking out for a few big plays throughout the course of the matchup in New Orleans. It ultimately didn’t cost them the game, but one thing the Falcons will have to clean up is the number of big plays they end up surrendering on defense for the remainder of the season.
