4. Breida, Coleman combine for 200 yards rushing

Run, run, sub another running back in, and then run some more — this has essentially been the offensive game plan for the San Francisco 49ers this season. And despite the passing boom of the NFL in recent years, the creative approach of Kyle Shanahan in how he deploys guys out of the backfield has been highly successful, which is also a testament to Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida.

More from NFL Spin Zone

In eight games this season, Breida has 99 carries for 524 yards and a touchdown along with 14 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. Coleman, meanwhile, has only played in six games but still has 83 rushes for 355 yards and five touchdowns, supplemented by 10 receptions for 74 yards and another touchdown.

For the season, the 49ers have averaged 171.1 yards per game on the ground but now come up against Bobby Wagner and a talented Seahawks run defense conceding only 102.7 yards per game. While that may be true, my money is still on Shanahan in the Niners coming through, scheming up big holes for their star duo at running back and letting the cook.

As talented as the Seattle run defense is, they don’t have the speed to keep up with Breida and Coleman, both of whom can look as if they’re shot out of a cannon when they get a little space to work. Coming off 11 days of rest, the 49ers will come up strong in the run game as they have more often than not this season as Breida and Coleman eclipse 200 combined rushing yards.
