Colin Kaepernick will hold a workout as he tries to get back in the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys reportedly could be interested in adding him to the roster.

The workout hasn’t even taken place yet but it’s already dominating news cycles. Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be working out in the Atlanta area and many representatives from around the league will be in attendance — including some from the Dallas Cowboys organization.

Surely they will say this is just them doing their due diligence and they are clearly set at the position with Dak Prescott playing the best football of his career. However, adding someone with Kaep’s skill set wouldn’t be a bad idea at all.

Kaepernick and Prescott aren’t identical players but they do share some of the same skillsets. Dak is a player that’s dealing it with nearly 70 percent accuracy this season. He’s also able to hurt teams with his legs, already rushing three touchdowns this season and 21 in his career.

At this point, he’s a far better passer than Kaepernick ever was but the former San Francisco 49ers starter is far superior with his legs. He doesn’t run it into the endzone as often as Dak, but had 2,300 yards in 58 starts compared to 1,119 for Prescott in 57 starts.

While he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016, Kaepernick would be an upgrade over Cooper Rush, the current Dallas back up. Not only has Rush thrown just three career passes, but Kaepernick’s ability to run the ball makes him much harder to defend should he ever have to see the field.

Not only that, but he did guide his team to a Super Bowl following the 2012 season. It’s rare to have that kind of experience to call upon in an emergency.

Of course, it’s not all about football with Colin Kaepernick. The former Niner has been a lightning rod for controversy ever since he began sitting for the National Anthem in protest of social injustice and police brutality. However, Dallas has a big enough brand to withstand any backlash over signing him — and in all honesty, they could gain a lot of respect as well from those who support Kaepernick.

No matter what your stance is on the signal-caller, it’s hard to say he wouldn’t be an upgrade over what Dallas has on their bench right now. And that’s not a slight on Rush, but rather a compliment to Colin Kaepernick.
