2020 NFL Draft: Ranking the top 5 non-quarterback prospects
By Lucas Schuh
1. Chase Young, EDGE, Ohio State
In relief of Nick Bosa last season, Chase Young proved he was already one of the best pass-rushers in college football. But thrust into a featured role for the 2019 season, Young has taken his game to another level and looks like perhaps the best overall player in the 2020 NFL Draft class.
Young isn’t a freaky, next-level athlete but that does not mean he’s absent elite physical traits. It’s Young’s skills as a pass-rushing specialist that make him a top-three talent. Young can win in a multitude of different ways, using power, speed and his hands to dominate opposing offensive linemen.
There isn’t a single thing Young can’t do from a pass rush perspective. Young also has terrific balance and is able to push through contact in order to get to the quarterback.
It’s rare to say that a player is guaranteed to be successful in the NFL but Young may be the exception to that rule. His skill set and his very-present athleticism are unmatched in this draft class.
The only reason that Chase Young won’t end up as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft is that he doesn’t play quarterback. Though he does play a premium position, quarterbacks will always be valued the highest, especially in a class as rich as this one. However, whichever team ends up with Young after the signal-callers are taken will be far from disappointed.
