Stud: Rashaad Penny, RB

The 2018 first-round pick has not gotten much love from this site over the past two seasons. However, in a game where Russell Wilson and Chris Carson struggled to move the ball, Penny delivered.

Early in the fourth quarter, he scampered for a 58-yard rushing touchdown. Penny thought he was in the clear until another defender showed up on his left side. What did the second-year running back do? He merely shucked the would-be tackler away and continued on his way to the end zone. The score put Seattle up 17-3.

The touchdown run sealed the game for Seattle as their defense took care of the rest. Philadelphia did score again, but it wasn’t until the game was in its final minute. Seattle recovered a subsequent Eagles onside kick attempt.

Penny carried the ball 14 times for 129 yards (9.2 per carry) and a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard rushing game this season. He had one such game as a rookie as well.

Dud: Chris Carson, RB

Going into Week 12, Carson had 695 rushing yards in the previous seven games. In all but one of those seven games, Carson had 80 or more yards on the ground. However, Philadelphia’s defense suffocated him on Sunday.

Carson only saw eight carries, trailing Penny’s 14. He ran for 26 yards (3.3 per attempt) and caught four passes for 31 yards. He also fumbled once, but the Seahawks recovered, and he contributed to a bad exchange that counted as a fumble for Wilson in the fourth quarter.

While Carson is generally a positive for the Seahawks, he has games where things continuously go wrong. He lacks the versatility to break out of games where he’s stuck in a rut. That could haunt Seattle down the line.
