Seattle Seahawks: Studs and duds vs. Eagles in Week 12
By Samuel Teets
Stud: The defense
Usually, I prefer to give credit to individual players instead of overall units. However, Seattle’s defense deserves a tip of the cap. While the offense floundered and registered punt after punt, the defense kept Wentz and Philadelphia in check all game.
Seattle’s defense cleaned up after the offense several times, including in the middle of the fourth quarter. After Wilson fumbled the ball on a bad exchange with Carson, Seattle’s defense came up big. With 7:50 left in the fourth quarter, Seattle’s defense stopped Philadelphia on fourth down, giving the ball back to Wilson.
Outside of Ansah, several other Seahawks had good individual performances. K.J. Wright led the game with 12 combined tackles. Mychal Kendricks was right behind him with 11. Quandre Diggs, Quinton Jefferson and Al Woods all recovered fumbles. Tre Flowers and Bradley McDougald both picked off Wentz. Shaquem Griffin also had his most impactful game this season.
Dud: Russell Wilson, QB
The Seahawks are one of the best teams in the NFL and Russell Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks. However, his MVP case took a hit on Sunday. Against an average Philadelphia secondary, Wilson couldn’t establish any rhythm. Luckily, the defense held Philadelphia’s offense in check.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback turned the ball over twice against the Eagles. He was credited with a lost fumble on a bad exchange with Carson in the fourth quarter. Wilson also threw an interception to Rodney McLeod. It was just the third interception he’s thrown this season but it was his second in the last two games.
Overall, Wilson completed 13 of his 25 pass attempts (52.0 percent) for 200 yards, a touchdown and posted a 75.4 passer rating. It was just his third game with a sub-100.0 passer rating and it was his second-lowest rating in a game this season.
