Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions: 4 Bold predictions for Thanksgiving
The Chicago Bears get the Thanksgiving honor of facing the Detroit Lions. Four bold predictions for the Turkey Day matchup at Ford Field.
Nothing to get the Detroit Lions fans hyped for their Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Chicago Bears quite like losing to the previous-one-win Redskins. But here we are with Matt Patricia’s team struggling mightily now that Jeff Driskel has been the starter due to Matthew Stafford‘s injury. Now, Driskel is out too with David Blough starting.
If Detroit were to have one thing to hang their hat on, though, it’s the fact that Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears have had their share of issues as well. Matt Nagy’s team remains strong defensively but the offensive regression has this group looking like a shell of what they were one season ago.
So what will give on Turkey Day? These are four bold predictions for the Thanksgiving matchup between the Bears and Lions.

4. Trubisky replicates three-touchdown showing
The first time that the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions met this season, Trubisky had one of his best games of the 2019 season, going 16-of-23 for 173 yards and three touchdowns. And considering that the Lions defense has only looked more suspect since, the quarterback is more than capable of replicating that effort.
Yes, Trubisky is much-maligned and rightfully so in many cases. However, he still has talent and a variety of weapons that can help him out. To gash this Detroit defense at the second level, he’ll use them and end up with three more touchdowns against the NFC North foe.
3. Slay gets best of Trubisky once
As much success as Trubisky had against the Lions previously and that I think he’ll have on Thanksgiving, there is one potential matchup problem. Allen Robinson, who has been by far Trubisky’s favorite target this season, will likely be shadowed by Darius Slay in this game.
Robinson should be able to get the better of that matchup at times but he’ll fall short in a couple of other instances — but that won’t stop Trubisky from trying to force the ball in there. The result will be Slay getting at least one interception off of the Chicago quarterback on Thursday.
2. Montgomery carries the load in big way
Few things — particularly for fantasy football owners — have been more frustrating than the Bears’ usage of rookie David Montgomery. His workload has been inconsistent and even when he’s gotten work at times, the way he’s been used has not been favorable.
What is favorable is this Detroit Lions run defense that’s giving up 120.7 yards per game on the ground this season. Nagy can’t be blind to that and will feed his young backfield stand-in often against Detroit, resulting in a 100-yard day for the Iowa State product.
1. Bears move back to .500 with 20-point win
Bears fans will have plenty to be thankful for when the four quarters of play are up as Chicago is going to walk into Ford Field and pick up a decisive victory over their division rivals.
Even when the Bears have been winning this season, it hasn’t been by much. In fact, their largest margin of victory this season came all the way back in Week 3 when they demolished an awful Washington team on Monday Night Football by 16 points. After Detroit lost to those Redskins last week, though, Chicago will notch a 20-point win and keep faint playoff aspirations afloat.
