Wild Card Round – No. 5 vs. No. 4 matchups

AFC Wild Card: 5 Buffalo Bills at 4 Kansas City Chiefs

The Bills are a team that I’ve steadfastly maintained are good but not quite as good as their current 9-3 record would indicate. Everyone is hyping them up after a Thanksgiving Day win over Dallas but it’s probably just as much the case that the Cowboys aren’t very good. Even with how well Sean McDermott has coached this team, how good the defense is and how well Josh Allen is playing, there is still trepidation for me with Buffalo.

When it comes to the Chiefs, though, I don’t feel the same. This team is finally getting fully healthy as Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones and Tyreek Hill have all dealt with injuries throughout the season. And when they’re all healthy under Andy Reid, this team remains dangerous despite shortcomings on defense. They can put up enough offense on Buffalo that the Bills’ lack of weapons will burn them at Arrowhead Stadium.

Winner: Chiefs

NFC Wild Card: 5 San Francisco 49ers at 4 Dallas Cowboys

Jason Garrett and the Dallas Cowboys have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory plenty of times this season as they simply cannot beat good teams. Dak Prescott is playing the best football of his NFL career and Amari Cooper has been awesome but the unimaginative play-calling and defensive woes have plagued this team and will continue to hold them back.

While San Francisco lost to Baltimore in Week 13, there’s no reason to sleep on them. Kyle Shanahan has the running game around Jimmy Garoppolo humming and the Nick Bosa-led defense looks like one of the best units in the league still under Robert Saleh. This will simply be a game where Garrett is outmatched on the sidelines as the Niners should roll on the road.

Winner: 49ers
