Gang Green needs to bounce back after a loss to the Bengals as the New York Jets host the Dolphins in Week 14. Previewing the action on Sunday.

The New York Jets trudge into Sunday’s contest against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium fresh off another embarrassing defeat to the hapless Bengals. What else is new? Same old Jets, right?

Well, the season still marches on and games need to be played before another disastrous campaign comes to an end. Happy Holidays! Gang Green barely leads the series between the old AFL rivals, 54-53-1. The Dolphins have captured the last four games though.

Let’s preview this tussle with a prediction to cap things off.

More from NFL Spin Zone

When the Dolphins (3-9) have the ball:

Old man Ryan Fitzpatrick, the bearded one, just keeps rolling along. Fitzmagic has fired five touchdown passes in his last two games, including three with one interception in Miami’s 37-31 upset of the Eagles last Sunday. The Harvard product also threw for a season-high 365 yards against Philly and is playing some of the best football of his 15-year, eight-team career.

He would love nothing more than to beat Gang Green for the second time this season. In Week 9, Fitzpatrick completed 24 of 36 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns against New York.

The two players Gregg Williams’ defensive corps must contain are wide receiver DeVante Parker and tight end Mike Gesicki. Parker is coming off a season-high 159-yard, two-touchdown performance vs. the Eagles while Gesicki chipped in with five receptions for 79 yards and a score against the Birds.

Parker (53-854-6) is an excellent route runner with strong hands and terrific athletic ability. Gesicki is a dangerous red zone threat and is very effective down the seam. The Jets have to make sure they provide safety help over the top on both players.

When the Jets (4-8) have the ball:

Gang Green will be facing the worst defense in the NFL — the Dolphins are allowing 31.4 points per game. The Fish are also giving up 399.7 yards from scrimmage per game (30th in the league).

Sam Darnold can attack the Fins over the middle with Jamison Crowder from the slot and tight end Ryan Griffin down the middle. Sprinkle in a post pattern or two to Robby Anderson and the green and white should be in business against a Miami pass defense that ranks 23rd in the league (256.2 yards per game).

Le’Veon Bell must bounce back from a very dismal performance against Cincinnati last Sunday. The Dolphins are putrid against the run, allowing 143.5 yards per game (ranked 31st). Look for Darnold to also swing some screen passes Bell’s way as well as they try to get him open in space.

Prediction

It’s time for Gang Green to snap their losing streak against the feisty Fish. Expect Fitzmagic to show grit and toss a pair of touchdown passes To Parker but Darnold will do him one better with touchdown aerials to Bell, Anderson and Griffin, respectively, as the Jets soar to an impressive, bounce-back triumph. Jets 27, Dolphins 17.
