The stock of Markus Bailey was starting to get some upward-trending buzz coming into the 2019 season but an injury ultimately took him off the field. While that’s a concern in its own right, what he did put on film was a terrific and instinctual run defender that could very much help the Packers shore up the one area of their defense where they’ve really struggled this season, namely stopping opposing running backs.

Bailey might not be the athlete necessary to use frequently in passing situations but the Packers have enough talent at safety to potentially take him out in sub-packages. Bailey could, in theory, represent a replacement for Blake Martinez, who is set to become a free agent after this season, as a run-stopper and tackling machine in the middle of the defense and perhaps be an upgrade as well.

If you’re just looking at physical tools, Missouri’s Jordan Elliott might be a first-round pick. The 6-4, 315-pounder is an absolute stud in terms of the athleticism and strength he brings to the table. Despite that size and weight, he doesn’t carry any bad weight and moves like a man much smaller than many players of the same build. Where he struggles, however, is with his technical abilities.

Elliott has been incredibly inconsistent with his motor, consistent hand usage and his punch. It’s frustrating to see that at times but it also makes him a great value for the Packers on the defensive line. He’d be a movable piece that could provide depth behind the likes of Kenny Clark and Dean Lowry, particularly if Mike Pettine and the Green Bay staff are able to get him to fix some of the things that plagued him in college.
