NFL Draft Spotlight

Every week, I’ll dissect a college football player who recently grabbed the spotlight and what his future holds in the NFL. This week, I’ll be looking at a huge sleeper at running back.

Who: Cam Akers, RB, Florida State

What Works

  • Athleticism
  • Balance
  • Explosiveness
  • Finishing runs
  • Lateral agility
  • Physicality
  • Playing through contact
  • Power
  • Quickness
  • Receiving skills
  • Size (5-11, 212 pounds)
  • Toughness
  • Willing blocker

What Needs Work

  • Little more consistency
  • Pass protection
  • Vision at line of scrimmage

The Scout’s Opinion

"“Few running backs in football have done more to help their status as NFL draft prospects than Cam Akers. He came into this season as an underachiever, but he has shed that label in a big way by setting career highs in just about every statistical category — and he only needed 10 games to get there. Akers enters the game against Florida with 1,265 yards of offense and 17 touchdowns. He is physical but also nimble, explosive and smooth.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network"

Outlook: A victim of poor coaching and poor offensive line play, Akers is one of my favorite running backs in the class. Akers is currently a great value due to the loaded talent in the Draft.

Early Projection: Third Round
