2. Running game surprises fans

About this time last year, Homer completed his third and final season with the Miami Hurricanes. During the 2018 collegiate season, Homer ran for 985 yards and four touchdowns on 164 attempts. In the sixth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Seahawks brought Homer into the fold.

Entering Week 16, Homer had just three carries. That’s not surprising considering Seattle’s backfield already featured Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and C.J. Prosise. However, Homer finished Sunday’s matchup against Arizona with five carries for 16 yards. Now, Homer could see his first NFL start against the 49ers.

Penny tore his ACL in Week 14, which pushed Prosise further up the depth chart. Unfortunately, Prosise suffered a broken arm during Sunday’s loss. Carson also left the game. The star running back suffered a fractured hip and will miss Seattle’s season finale. All of this information comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Seattle’s running back situation is so desperate that the team met with Marshawn Lynch. Lynch earned his infamous Beast Mode nickname during a Hall of Fame-caliber stint with Seattle from 2010 to 2015. He sat out 2016 before playing with the Oakland Raiders for two years. Lynch has not played this season.

Per Schefter, the Seahawks brought back veteran back, Robert Turbin, in addition to bringing in Lynch for a workout. Lynch signed a deal either late Sunday night or early Monday morning that puts him back in Seattle’s backfield for the remainder of the season.

All of this madness is fun, and it highlights what the Seahawks are. Rolling into Week 17, Homer and Seattle’s newest signings might surprise everyone and have a great game.
